I'm a pretty huge fan of cottage cheese - it's a great source of protein and calcium, it tastes great, and it can be eaten sweet or salty. The only thing to watch for is the sodium content, but since the rest of my diet is relatively low in sodium and my family has no blood pressure issues, I figure a little cottage cheese every now and then won't hurt me. Lactaid Cottage Cheese is one of my favorites, but it's not available in 8 ounce containers. Friendship 1% Lowfat Cottage Cheese, however, is. I bought a small container at the grocery store for $1.99.
Let's start with discussing the nutrition facts, because as it turned out, this was the best aspect of this cottage cheese. Each 1/2 cup serving (half a container) provides 90 calories, 1 gram of fat, 0.5 grams of which is saturated, 15% of the daily value for sodium, no fiber, 3 grams of sugar, 16 grams of protein, and 10% of the DV for calcium.
The ingredients include Cultured Pasteurized Grade A Skim Milk, Milk, Nonfat Milk, Salt, Vitamin A Palmitate, Carbon Dioxide Added To Protect Freshness And Enzyme.
As for taste, I wasn't thrilled. Like the Friendship All Natural 1% Whipped Cottage Cheese Review, this version is also too dry and bland. I really like my cottage cheese to be liquidy enough that I can spoon it up easily without feeling like I'm eating something whipped (unless it's whipped cottage cheese).
Overall, although this is available in smaller containers, I probably won't be buying it again, and will stick with Friendship All Natural Digestive Health Cottage Cheese With Pro-active Nutrients Review or Lactaid Cottage Cheese.
