South Beach Living Strawberry Harvest Crunch Cereal Review

I love going to the $0.99 store because you can find some awesome steals (like Back to Nature Banana Walnut Bakery Squares). A couple of weeks ago, I purchased South Beach Living Strawberry Harvest Crunch Cereal for ... $0.99 a box. Actually I got two because I thought, "how bad could it be"... and plus,these (and all other South Beach products except for the bars) have been discontinued, so I didn't want to run the risk of discovering a delicious cereal, only to never be able to have it again.

The cereal looks intriguing on the box with a vibrant picture of crunchy flakes, bright strawberries and cute heart shaped cereal bits. But, pour some into a bowl, add milk and your whole crunchy, abundant, overflowing cereal dreams come crashing to the ground. The flakes are so thin and small (almost like they have been smashed before being placed into the bag) that they soak up the milk right before your eyes. I had to refill my bowl with more milk two times because the super absorbent cereal was undoubtedly at work.

Each bite, while mostly mushy, has a bit of crunch and a nice lightly sweet strawberry flavor, which is about the only nice thing I can say about this cereal. However, you will probably consume about twice as many calories when compared with your average breakfast cereal because after the flakes have sopped up the milk, your bowl will appear about half full (playing tricks with your mind).

Each cup of South Beach Living Strawberry Harvest Crunch Cereal (which seems like about half of a cup when milk is added) provides 170 calories, 2% of the daily value for total fat, no saturated fat, 8 grams of fiber (32% of the DV), 9 grams of sugars, 7 grams of protein and a whole host of vitamins and minerals.

Good thing this has been discontinued, but for those seeking a bargain like myself, and might spot boxes still floating around - do not, I repeat, do not think you are saving money by buying this. You will end up having to eat more than 1 serving to be satisfied and use more milk - which will end up costing you nutritionally & price-wise in the long run.
