Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Maple Pecan Crunch Cereal is described as having, "toasted crunchy flax flakes combined with a granola made of golden-hued, real maple syrup and roasted pecans." Now that is one delicious sounding cereal.
And guess what? I quite liked this. The flavor was subtle but delicious, and the cereal was quite crunchy. I wasn't sure how the addition of pecans would turn out, but it really added some extra oomph!
However, all of those rich ingredients add up in terms of the nutritionals. Each 3/4 cup serving of Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Maple Pecan Crunch Cereal provides 220 calories, 11% of the daily value for total fat, 5% of the DV for saturated fat, 5 grams of fiber, 10 grams of sugar and 6 grams of protein. There is also 15% of the DV for iron.
The ingredients include, organic whole wheat meal, organic rolled oats, organic evaporated cane juice, organic wheat bran, organic pecans, organic flax, organic soy oil, organic brown rice flour, organic oat bran, organic barley malt extract, sea salt, organic maple syrup, organic coconut, natural maple flavor, organic oat syrup solids (organic oat syrup solids, tocopherols), tocopherols (natural vitamin E), organic molasses, organic cinnamon.
Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Maple Pecan Crunch Cereal is gluten free and suitable for vegetarians. This cereal, while delicious, is quite expensive though. It's available online at World Pantry, $4.79 per 11.5 ounce box (or $52.48 for 12 - a savings of $5.00). Plus, although the fiber and protein counts are good, the calorie count is high, especially for only a 3/4-cup serving.
I think I would rather have Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Multi Bran Cereal, provides 110 calories per 3/4 cup serving and a similar amount of protein and fiber.
