After finishing a box of Kellogg's Smart Start Strawberry Oat Bites, I was perusing the cereal aisle and saw Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats Blueberry Muffin Cereal. With a rebate offer on the box, I decided it was worth a try. The Frosted Mini-Wheats Blueberry Muffin Cereal is very similar to the regular Frosted Mini-Wheats except for the added blueberry flavored coating.
I really like the mini-wheat squares cereal for their heartiness and ability to hold on to the milk when eaten together. The coloring seems a little strange on a cereal that is usually so simple, but it grew on me. I ate this more as a snack than for breakfast, and they were quite filling (the nature of the shredded wheat results in a lot of crumbs when you bite into the cereal when it's eaten as a snack).
The serving size is about 1 cup which provides 180 calories and 12 grams of sugars. There is also 90% of the daily recommendations for iron along with 25% of a few more vitamins and minerals. The ingredients list includes whole grain wheat, sorbitol and various food dyes - not the best but not too bad either.
A 16 ounce box of this cereal cost $4.29 at Kroger. The taste is quite good, and I value the wholesomeness of the whole grain. While there are lower calorie cereals out there, this one is still pretty good - and a way better breakfast than Fiber One Brown Sugar Cinnamon Toaster Pastry. Also notable are the high fiber content and absence of sodium. I'm glad to have a new healthier option available for cereal.
