Kashi Mighty Bites Review

It seems that I am always searching for healthy alternatives for the beloved foods of my childhood. When it comes to cereal, my mind conjures up images of an eight year old version of myself sitting at the breakfast table, beaming with anticipation for something sugary and sweet (Honey Nut Cheerios comes to mind). These days, I have been on the lookout for healthier alternatives, and just when I thought that my love for all things honey and nut could only be had as an occasional treat, I discovered Kashi Mighty Bites, Honey Crunch flavor.
Technically this cereal is marketed toward kids, but that has never stopped me from purchasing a product before. The Kashi version of Honey Nut Cheerios is characterized by a more subtle honey taste, but it nonetheless delivers a yummy flavor experience, and it has about half the sugar (5 grams per cup compared to 12 grams). I must confess that I was a bit startled when I first poured the Mighty Bites into my cereal bowl and instead of finding the conventional "O" shape, I found out that Mighty Bites are shaped like tiny people. I don't know about you, but I don't really like to think that I am eating little people for breakfast. Anyway, cannibalistic concerns aside, I thoroughly enjoyed this cereal, and it has now become a staple in my pantry.

As mentioned before, Kashi Mighty Bites are a sound nutritional choice. One serving is 1 cup and there are 120 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, which is 2% of the RDA, no saturated or trans fat, 5 grams of protein and 23 grams of total carbohydrates, which includes only 5 grams of sugar and 11% of the RDA for fiber (3 grams). Like most breakfast cereals, Mighty Bites is also fortified with a variety of vitamins and minerals.
I purchased the cereal at Whole Foods on sale for approximately $2.00, but normally it is a bit on the pricey side, costing upwards of $3.00. You can also purchase a box of $6.00 on Amazon.com for $18.88 [link].
