Kashi Good Friends High Fiber Cereal Original Review

Rating:

Kashi Good Friends High Fiber CerealI don't think I'm in the target age demographic for this cereal based on the models on the box, but Kashi Good Friends High Fiber Cereal still appeals to me. Introduced by a friend, this cereal is low key and high quality at the same time. If my endorsement doesn't lure you in, perhaps the fact that this cereal provides "nearly 50% of your daily fiber needs" is more enticing.

Perhaps symbolizing good friends, this cereal consists of a "trio of flakes, twigs, and granola" as described by Kashi. The flakes were pretty large and thicker than your average bran flake. The idea of eating branches off trees is a bit odd, but the twigs are crunchy and mildly sweet. I liked how the twigs were connected in various bundle sizes. The granola was sweet and tasty but not really distinct. This cereal also made a good standalone snack.

A 1 cup serving (1.9 ounces) of Kashi Good Friends High Fiber Cereal Original provides 170 calories, 2 grams of total fat (3% of the daily value), and 130 milligrams of sodium (5% DV). There are also 5 grams of protein and 43 grams of carbohydrates, including 9 grams of sugars and 12 grams of dietary fiber. That breaks down to 1 gram of soluble fiber and 11 grams of insoluble fiber, which is the type that helps your body move things along in your intestines to keep you "regular."

A 13 ounce box normally costs $4.79 at Kroger. The fiber content is great, but I really like the wholesome taste and crunch of this cereal, especially as a snack. There is also a version of this cereal with raisins called Kashi Good Friends Cinna-Raisin Crunch Cereal (read the review).
