I was intrigued by Health Valley Organic Multi-Grain Apple Cinnamon Square-Ems Cereal because the picture on the box looked just like Quaker Oatmeal Squares, which got a good review. This gem was hidden in the small Organic foods section of the supermarket, so I consider it a hidden find.
The cereal pieces were plump with plenty of texture from the oat and wheat flour. There's a tiny pocket of air sandwiched inside, reducing the density of the cereal, but the apple cinnamon flavor is quite pronounced and leaves me going yum! The squares are a perfect size to eat as a snack, but they will leave a residue on your fingers if you eat them that way.
A 1ΒΌ cup serving of Health Valley Organic MultiGrain Apple Cinnamon Square Ems provides 210 calories, 3 grams of total fat, no saturated fat, 5% of the DV for sodium, 32% of the DV for fiber and 5 grams of protein. The cereal also notably provides 80% DV vitamin C per serving. The main sweetness of the cereal comes from organic evaporated cane juice and organic molasses, which sets this cereal apart from those that are made with high fructose corn syrups and such (see the ingredients list here).
A 10 ounce box, with about 5 servings, costs $4.25 at Kroger. This is mighty expensive compared to quite a few other cereals, however, this cereal tastes great and is nutritionally sound. I would definitely buy this cereal again (although I've been having trouble locating it recently), and I'll be keeping a keen eye out for coupons.
