I associate Cinnabon with the sinfully delicious and totally fat and calorie laden deserts that can be found in numerous malls. Therefore when I saw Cinnabon Cinnamon Crunch Cereal at my local grocery store, I was excited and turned off all at the same time! After glancing at the nutritional panel, I just knew that I had to share my find with Iateapie.net readers.
The nutritional information is almost unbelievable for a Cinnabon product. There are only 11 ingredients, with Whole Oat Flour, Whole Brown Rice Flour and Turbinado Brown Sugar as the first three. Makara Cinnamon, a delicacy made only by Cinnabon, also makes a bold statement! Each 1 cup serving provides 150 calories, 1.5 grams of fat (3% of the daily value), no saturated fat or sodium, 3 grams of protein and 31 grams of carbohydrates which includes 3 grams of fiber (11% of the DV) and 10 grams of sugar. Cinnabon Cinnamon Crunch Cereal also contains 20 grams of whole grain per serving.
After looking at the nutrition facts, I decided to eat this as a snack/ dessert instead of cereal with milk, so I poured some dry cereal into a bowl and was surprised to see that the cereal closely resembled the picture on the box! Each piece of Cinnabon Cinnamon Crunch flaunts a light honey sugar coating over an airy, yet compact wheat swirl. The first bite was not quite what I was expecting. I have always imagined Cinnabon to produce overly sweet treats, which this was not. Instead, it possessed a mildly sweet and buttery cinnamon flavor. The taste exhibits a slight resemblance to an actual cinnamon roll, but on a much lower scale.
All in all, this cereal is an appealing, crunchy and satisfying indulgence. The $3.79 that I spent on this cereal (each box has 9 servings) is more than I am usually willing to pay, but intrigue got the best of me! If this cereal ever goes on sale, I would buy it again for a subtle treat. This cereal is living proof that you should not "judge a book by its cover."
