Although people often eat hummus on top of crackers or pita bread, I like using hummus as a dip for baby carrots. Since I can be a voracious consumer of baby carrots, price is an important consideration in addition to the taste of the hummus. Tribe Sweet Roasted Red Peppers Hummus fits both bills for me.
This hummus has the traditional look and taste of hummus, but the small bits of red pepper give an extra bit of sweetness when you bite into one of them. The hummus has a reliable creamy but still mildly chunky texture that really complemented my carrots or any other foundation. Though natural roasted garlic flavor is included in the ingredient list (last), that flavor is very slight and virtually undetectable. Still, I really like the slight tartness amidst the mild flavor of hummus.
One serving of Tribe Sweet Roasted Red Peppers Hummus is 2 tablespoons and has 40 calories and 2.5 grams of total fat with no saturated fat or cholesterol. Each serving has 125 milligrams of sodium (5% of the daily value), 3 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of which is dietary fiber, and 1 gram of protein.
One 8 ounce container cost $1.98 at the Wal-Mart Supercenter. The hummus has the great taste and texture you would expect but with the visually appealing, palate pleasing addition of sweet red peppers. This hummus packs in a good amount of protein and fiber in a small serving and is quite light but satisfying. For such good quality, the price is unbeatable, and I will be buying this hummus again.
