When I think of a breakfast burrito, I have thoughts of fluffy eggs (or egg whites), crunchy peppers & onions and melted cheese wrapped within a doughy tortilla. Thus, that was my expectation for the Cedarlane All Natural Scrambled Egg, Vegetable and Cheese Breakfast Burrito - even if I found it in the frozen foods section.
Upon opening the packaging, I saw that about half of the tortilla had broken off, however, there was just enough tortilla left to completely wrap the creation without leaving the insides gushing out. I guess this was somewhat of a plus because the folded parts of the burrito usually get tough anyways. The tortilla was thoroughly enjoyable, being soft and doughy in its entirety; but the filling was something else entirely.
The concoction within the delicious tortilla is mainly composed of egg whites, potatoes, cheddar cheese, milk, onions and green peppers. The vegetable component is most certainly visible and provides a subtle crunch; but, overall, it gets lost within the mushiness of the remaining ingredients. Unfortunately, this tasted more like mashed potatoes, although it looked like eggs. Something about the uniformly mushy texture was just not working for me.
Each Cedarlane Breakfast Burrito provides 290 calories, 13% and 16% of the daily value for total and saturated fat, 27% of the DV for sodium, less than 1 gram of fiber, 3 grams of sugar and 15 grams of protein. Furthermore, the ingredient list could not be any more straight forward.
I hadn't found a Cedarlane product that I didn't like ... until today. Unfortunately, I will have to fulfill my doughy tortilla desires though some other medium because the Cedarlane Scrambled Egg, Vegetable and Cheese Breakfast Burrito, which cost me $2.50, won't be chilling in my freezer again anytime soon. Good thing I had also bought the 'already proven to be delicious' Cedarlane Beans Rice & Cheese Style Burrito for lunch.
