The Cedarlane Uncured Turkey Bacon, Vegetable & Cheese Egg White Omelette is described as "an egg white omelette wrapped around a delicious filling of uncured turkey bacon, potatoes, bell pepper, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses." This gluten free, low cholesterol breakfast can be microwaved and ready for consumption in 3 minutes flat! I won't lie - I thought this was too good to be true.
But alas, my hesitations were put to rest as the first steamy bite entered my mouth. The egg was perfectly cooked, not too chewy or soft; but just as an omelet should be: firm, yet fluffy. Furthermore, the thickness of the egg whites was very substantial, being about twice the size of the filling. The generous portion of turkey bacon provided a nice and meaty background, adding more protein and substance to the dish. The bell peppers added an element of crunch and diced potatoes rounded out this hearty omelet. The top is sprinkled with cheese and the filling was held together by just enough cheese to provide flavor and texture without overwhelming the other components of the dish.
Alas, this Cedarlane Omelette is not exactly a low fat dish. Each hearty 8 ounce creation provides 300 calories, 13 grams of total fat & 7 grams of saturated fat (20% & 35% of the daily value), 640 mg of sodium (27% of the DV), 1 gram of fiber, 3 grams of sugars and a whopping 24 grams of protein. The ingredient list is all natural with nothing too suspect.
As much as the fat content is a little on the high side, this omelet will last until lunch because it's so substantial and filling - not to mention the high protein factor. I would give an A+ and 2 thumbs up to the Cedarlane All Natural Egg White Omelet With Uncured Turkey Bacon, Vegetables & Cheesebecause for just 3 minutes in the microwave, I can indulge in a substantial omelet dish that will taste better than the one that would have required me to sauté veggies, dice potatoes, pan fry turkey bacon and utilize the master flipping skill that I do not have!
I received this as a sample from the company, but it costs $3.99 at ShopRite - yes a steep price to pay, but I would be willing to do so in the future.
