Bread seems to be a very tricky thing in my house. I am always searching for the "perfect trifecta" of taste, nutrition, lower in calories. I've gotten good at finding two out of three, but never the whole gamut. I know, I can just eat an open faced sammie and save some calories, but that will never be a REAL sandwich in my book, people! But I stumbled upon Vermont Bread Company Sprouted Wheat Bread while browsing through Whole Foods,and it looked very promising.

My first test was probably the roughest ... straight up out of the package, no accompaniments. All I can say is WOW! Amazing yummy The bread is sweet, dense, and chewy all in one. It reminded me of a cross between Ezekiel bread and wheat bread that tastes yummy but really isn't 100% whole wheat. I've never enjoyed a bread sans toppings so much before.

The ultimate test came during lunch when I fixed my hubby a "man sandwich." Normally one to shun any food perceived as "healthy", he bit into it with some hesitation and then proclaimed it the "best potato bread" he's ever eaten!

Each slice of Vermont Bread Company Sprouted Wheat Bread provides 60 calories, no fat, 2 grams of fiber as well as 3 grams of protein. I purchased this loaf for $3.49 at Whole Foods, which is a pretty good deal for this type of bread. I would happily purchase this again - not only is it made with all natural ingredients, but the nutrition facts are excellent, and both the man and myself love it.
