Toufayan Bakeries Hearth Baked Whole Wheat Pita Bread

I was thinking about making pitas for SandwichYum, so I picked up Toufayan Bakeries Hearth Baked Whole Wheat Pita Bread at the grocery store, for $1.99

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 loaf (56 grams)

Sodium: 225 mg, 9%
Carbohydrates: 30 grams
Fiber: 3 grams, 13%
Sugars: 2 grams
Protein: 6 grams

The first thing I made was breakfast the next morning - a Turkey and Spinach Omelet Pita. It was crazy good, but the one weakness was the Toufayan pita bread. It's very thin when opened so don't even think about getting more than a small handful of ingredients in it; and it's dry and rips way too easily. For the omelet, it was okay, but when I tried to stuffing it with diced chicken, lettuce & tomatoes - it broke apart.

Each loaf of Toufayan Bakeries Hearth Baked Whole Wheat Pita Bread provides 150 calories, 0.5 grams of total fat, 225 mg of sodium (9% of the daily value), 3 grams of fibers 912% of the DV), 2 grams of sugars and 6 grams of protein.

The ingredients are stone ground whole wheat flour, water, wheat gluten, yeast, malted barley, flour, sugar, salt, calcium propionate (added to retard spoilage).

Toufayan Bakeries Hearth Baked Whole Wheat Pita Bread might be better suited for making pita chips, but I wouldn't buy this again to make sandwiches. Instead, try The Alternative Pita from Western Bagel (less calories but more sodium) or Kangaroo Whole Wheat Salad Pockets.
