When I first laid eyes upon POMx Iced Coffee Cafe au Lait, I immediately thought of Starbucks' Bottled Frappuccino Beverages that can be found in just about every supermarket across the country. However, I knew that POM would put their own twist on coffee, so I was eager to see what they had in store for me in that plump little bottle.
The coffee flavor can most definitely stand up to Starbucks with its deep and rich nature. POM says it best with the following description adorning their new creation, "Deep passions deserve awakening. Excite yours with the darkest coffee and light, sweet creaminess of POM Iced Coffee Café au Lait". The creaminess that the (redeuced fat) milk adds along with the hint of added sweetener complements the coffee so well that you could drive right past Starbucks (with a smile on your face).
The ingredients list is comprised of: Reduced Fat Milk, brewed Rainforest Alliance Certified Coffee, POM Wonderful Pomegranate Antioxidant Extract, organic cane sugar and natural caffeine. Each chic 10.5 fl oz bottle of POMx Iced Coffee Cafe au Lait provides 170 calories, 20 grams of sugar and 7 grams of protein ... 20 grams of sugar! ( and by the way, Starbucks' creation has about 33g).
A 10.5 ounce bottle retails for $2.99, so it's pretty pricey. My recommendation: Drink half of the bottle for an extra jolt in the morning, then, next time, fill the other half with skim milk. The deep coffee flavor will be just as prevalent, I promise! Or try General Foods International On the Go Cafe Mocha (Sugar Free), which only has 60 calories (but there is aspartame).
