I recently had the opportunity to get samples of Crystal Light Pure - their "no artificial sweeteners, flavors or preservatives" line of drink mixes. Since I was born and raised on a tropical island, it was only fitting that I try the Tropical Blend.
I don't know what I was expecting from a :tropical blend" flavor, but I know it wasn't what I got. This Crystal Light "Tropical Blend" was like tart fake lime juice with an added unpleasant after-taste that lingered on your tongue long after you're finished with the drink ... and by finished, I mean after you've taken a few sips and decided you can't tolerate any more. There are lots of times I will eat or drink something that's just okay in taste because it's low in calories or sugars or fat - but not this time! A 1/2 packet serving of Crystal Light Pure Tropical Blend provides 15 calories from 4 grams of sugars, but I would much rather ingest more calories than drink another pack of this.
The ingredients in Crystal Light Pure Tropical Blend are sugar, citric acid, malic acid, maltodextrin, calcium lactate, contains less than 2% of natural flavor, rebiana (Truvia brand sweetener), magnesium oxide, sodium citrate, carrot and hibiscus blossom extracts (for color).
The suggested retail price is $3.29 for a box with 7 packs. I really appreciate the fact that I receive samples for companies to review, so I don't take it lightly when I don't like a product. But in this case, I have to say, save your money, try Fuze Slenderize (Tangerine Grapefruit), sweetened with sucralose and acesulfame K or Ocean Spray Cranergy Cranberry Lift, sweetened with just sucralose.
