Gnu Foods Peanut Butter Bar Review
After reading the review of Gnu bars, I was eager to try them. I'm not usually partial to fruity flavors, so I was hesitant to try the Banana Walnut and Orange Cranberry, but I noticed that there was also a Peanut Butter bar, which seemed perfect for me. I was also a little intimidated by the fact that these bars have a full 12 grams of fiber - that's 50% of my recommended daily amount - what if they actually tasted more like cardboard and less like bars?
The description on the Gnufoods.com is pretty much spot-on: "Gnu Bars are wonderfully moist, chewy, and delicious. Peanut Butter has baked-in peanut chunks and a yummy, nutty taste." I unwrapped the bar and discovered exactly the moist chewiness that they talked about; the first bite I took was filled with peanut flavor, not too sweet and not too overwhelming.

Gnu Foods Peanut Butter Bars are nutritional superstars. Each 45 gram bar provides 150 calories, 5 grams of total fat (8% of the daily value), 1 gram of saturated fat, 5 grams of protein and 30 grams of carbohydrates which includes 12 grams of fiber and 7 grams of saugars. We keep hearing so much about the health benefits of fiber, so knowing that one tasty little bar contains half of the RDA for fiber is pretty great! The ingredients list is not filled with crazy chemicals, simply Gnu High Fiber Blend (whole rolled oats, organic whole wheat flour, wheat bran, organic kamut, psyllium, flax, millet), chicory root inulin, fruit juices, rice dextrins, rice, canola oil, peanuts, apples, plums, natural flavors, wheat protein isolate, salt, baking powder.
I found these at my local health food store for $1.99. Unfortunately, that price is the only thing stopping me from adding Gnu bars to my daily rotation. They are available online at Amazon.com for a little cheaper ($26.99 for 16 (+$0.99 shipping). I like the bars I consume to have some extra nutritional benefits, like high fiber or high protein and Gnu bars fit the bill nicely.
