7-UP Plus Review

Rating:

7Up Plus Is 7-Up having a brand identity crisis? It's a soda. No, it's a caffeine-free soda. No, it's a caffeine-free, diet soda. Nooo, it's a caffeine-free, diet soda WITH fruit juice. But wait - it's a caffeine-free, diet soda, with fruit juice AND calcium added, so now lets call it 7-UP Plus! All this would have been quite okay, but for the fact that you forgot to ensure that this also tasted good if not great!

Oh the taste - pretty much horrible - pretty much like carbonated water. Here's how some other folks on the net described it. The ever popular Marvo from The Impulsive Buy, "Unfortunately, the taste of the Mixed Berry 7-Up Plus was very light, like a really bad diet soda. I guess when it contains 10 calories, two grams of carbs, and one gram of sugar, you can't expect much taste, but those numbers will definitely help prevent my ass from looking huge in those cute jeans I just bought." (And Marvo - pink is the new black!) He gave it 2 out of 5.

Bevnet actually gave this 3.5 out of 5 and said, "7 UP Plus's mild berry flavor has minimal aftertaste and is extremely refreshing." Minimal overall taste - in my opinion! The average visitor rating on Bevnet was 2 out of 5 (after 16 votes). Then we found some soda reviews at SteveandAmySly.com - "In the words of Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons, "Worst soft drink ever!" ... tastes bad at all times." I concur!

The reviews mentioned were all talking about the Mixed Berry flavor, which was the first flavor introduced. I tried the Cherry flavor, and it's just as bad. 7-Up Plus as mentioned before, has 10 calories in a 8 oz serving, 1 gram of sugar, 10% calcium, and is made with the sweeteners Splenda and acesulfame-K - no aspartame. I still love the taste of regular 7Up. But the least I expected was if you were going to put so much into a new hybrid juice flavored soda, and try and trick us into thinking 10% calcium and 5% juice - whopee !- then at least make this thing taste good!
