Luna Cookie Dough Protein Bar

Luna Cookie Dough Protein BarWhen I saw the front of the packaging for Luna Cookie Dough Protein Bar promising 12 grams of satiating protein plus calcium, folic acid, vitamin D, and iron, I knew that one of these bars would be going home with me. Luna further describes this bar as having chocolate chip and cookie dough pieces swirled in soft nougat with a flourish of vanilla.

I was amazed that this really tastes like cookie dough. The bar itself is comprised of a milk chocolate shell and an inner filling of chewy, rich "cookie dough". One bar kept me going for a while (probably thanks to the protein and bit of fiber), and I was perfectly happy after having this treat.

Each 45 gram Luna Cookie Dough Protein Bar provides 180 calories, 9% of the daily value for total fat, 20% of the DV for saturated fat, 3 grams of fiber, 15 grams of sugar, and 12 grams of protein.

In terms of vitamins and minerals, each bar has daily values of 20% for vitamin C, 25% for calcium, 15% for iron, 15% for vitamin D, 30% for vitamin E, 10% for each thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin, 20% for vitamin B6 and vitamin B12, and 30% for folate. The ingredients list starts out with a protein blend (soy protein isolate, whey protein concentrate) - Luna Bars are 70% organic.

I bought this bar for $1.29 per bar, and this is really a candy bar substitution, but probably not something I'll buy too regularly because of the high saturated fat (although I notice that a lot of the high protein bars do have high saturated fats). NuGo Peanut Butter Chocolate Bar has less fat & a little less sugars; Supreme Protein Carb Conscious Peanut Butter Crunch Bar has similar nutrition facts to the Luna Cookie Dough Protein Bar and less sugars.

I got a free sample of LUNA chocolate cherry almond flavor and wasn't impressed. I thought it was too chewy. I do like a good cookie dough bar...so maybe a try

I personally dislike protein bars in general and found this one no better than the others. If you don't like the taste of protein bars generally, you won't like this product
