When I think of condiments, I invariably think of ketchup. Ever since I was a child, I'v loved it on everything from hot dogs and hamburgers to scrambled eggs and french fries. And while several companies make ketchup, Heinz has been my one-and-only through the years. they've since added several "healthier" varieties; organic, low-sodium, and reduced-sugar. I decided to try the Heinz Organic variety to see if I would still be enamored by the taste and to see if there was a difference in the ingredients list.
I decided that French fries, ketchup's eternal life-mate, would be the best choice to try the red stuff on. I squeezed out a healthy amount next to my oven baked fries and dug in. Tomatoe-y goodness ensued, highlighted by a light tang and mild spiciness. It's not as thick or sticky as regular Heinz, but the taste is basically the same. I would say that the organic version is a little less "zingy"; it's like there's less vinegar which might be a make-or-break point for some.
A 1 tablespoon serving of Heinz Organic Ketchup provides 20 calories, 8% of the daily value for sodium and 4 grams of sugars. I do find it odd that the orgainc ketchup contains 5 more calories per serving, as well as 1 gram of extra carbohydrates than the regular version ... maybe some reformulation went on as well. The ingredients list includes, organic tomato concentrate from red ripe organic tomatoes, organic distilled vinegar, organic sugar, salt, organic onion powder, organic spice and natural flavoring.
So would I buy this again? Maybe. It wasn't too expensive as a 15 ounce bottle cost me $2.89 - although for that amount I could get a much larger bottle of regular Heinz. Plus Heinz has a brand called "Simply Heinz" which has no HFCS (not sure how much it costs though), but all Hunt's ketchup are now HFCS free.

I had this just last night on a veggie burger. :) I can't tell a difference! But then again, I haven't had "real" Ketchup in probably 6 years!
I was wondering if you were going to bring up HFCS. Ketchup is the last bastion of HFCS in our house. The natural sugar kind tastes "off" and has a different consistency. I guess we need to keep on looking for alternatives like this.
OOO have you tried Heinz Sugar Free Ketchup yet?!?! It's PHENOMENAL! I LOVE KETCHUP! ha ha!
I haven't tried the sugar-free ketchup. Since it only comes in small bottles and costs about 3x as much, it's not economical for me, since I go through quite a bit.
I would say the texture of this isn't as smooth as the original Heinz, but of the corn-syrup free varieties that I've tried, this one is certainly one of the better ones.
Hunt's ketchup isn't bad, either. It's less zingy and more sweet than Heinz, so it's really depends on personal preference.
HFCS and salt make ketchup taste good. I have no idea why so many people are scared to put a mere tablespoon of it on their burger of fries.
Chow.com actually just did a good article on this:

I love the regular Heinz. Nothin' better!
Heinz is the only ketchup.
