Haagen-Dazs Low Fat Chocolate Sorbet

Haagen-Dazs Low Fat Chocolate SorbetHaagen-Dazs Low Fat Chocolate Sorbet description is that, "every spoonful of this treat delivers a creamy, smooth texture and deep, rich chocolate taste. The cornerstone of this fabulous confection is our premium quality Dutch cocoa, brought to life in a refreshing sorbet." I have to say, I agree wholeheartedly with that endorsement.

The cocoa is dark and rich, the texture is creamy and not icy, and I really felt like I was eating high-fat dessert. Haagen-Dazs Low Fat Chocolate Sorbet is not a heavy cream like the ice cream so I just can't figure out what makes this taste so delicious!

I had previously read the review of the Haagen-Dazs Strawberry Sherbet, so I had a sneaky suspicion that this might be loaded up with sugars. Lucky for me, it seems HD dropped the amount of sugar from years ago. A 1/2 cup serving of Haagen-Dazs Low Fat Chocolate Sorbet provides 130 calories and 20 grams of sugar - compared to the Strawberry flavor which has 28 grams.

The ingredients in this all natural sorbet are, water, sugar, corn syrup, egg whites, low-fat cocoa and cocoa processed with alkali, fruit pectin, natural vanilla, and salt. There is quite a bit of sugar in this, so I wouldn't have this too often - but it's definitely worth it to swap out some of those higher sugar treats that you might indulge in ... let's not forget that an 8 ounce can of soda has 28 grams of sugars.

At $4.99 this stuff isn't cheap (convenience store pricing in NYC), but it's certainly worth it as an occasional treat - and don't even think about having more than 1/2 a cup in a day.
