Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Pumpkin Granola Bars

Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Pumpkin Granola BarsI have been trying a lot of natural and organic nutrition bars lately, trying to find a balance between a decent ingredients list, nutrtition facts & taste. There have been some winners, like the Oskri Cashew Bar, and losers like Bobo's Chocolate Oat Bar. Nature's Path rarely steers me wrong, so I decided to make Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Pumpkin Granola Bars next in line for review. I picked up a box on sale for $2.90 and was pretty psyched to give them a try.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (40 grams)
Calories: 160
Total Fat: 4.5 grams, 7%
Saturated Fat: 0.5 grams, 2%
Sodium: 90mg, 4%
Carbohydrates: 27 grams
Fiber: 4 grams, 12%
Sugars: 11 grams
Protein: 3 grams

First of all, they are pretty gooey. There are many forms of sugar that coat the bar (tapioca syrup, evaporated cane juice, invert cane syrup and molasses), which makes for a fairly sweet bar - so if you have a timid sweet tooth, this is not the bar for you. However, my sweet tooth is far from timid and I fell in love with this bar. Each bite delivers a sweet and chewy mouthful with a comforting background of pumpkin flavor. The texture is just perfect. The base of the bar is composed of rolled oats, brown rice flour (puffed rice), pumpkin seeds and flax seeds (kind of like a "grown-up" rice crispy treat).

The USDA certified organic ingredient list is extremely short (with the majority of the components listed in the paragraph above). Each 40 gram bar provides 160 calories, 7% & 3% of the daily value for total and saturated fat, 4 grams of total fiber (12% of the DV), 11 grams of sugar and 3 grams of protein.

This wheat free, whole grain, low sodium bar is definitely a must try if you want to satisfy your sweet cravings in a smart way. A 5 count box of Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Pumpkin Granola Bars on Amazon.com, cost $4.99, so I got mine on super sale and I am very happy with my purchase.

I just reviewed a Nature's Path bar compared to Kashi bar on my website. If anyone is curious, I prefer the taste of the Nature's Path bar. http://ateenagegourmet.wordpress.com
