Kernel Season's Caramel Popcorn Seasoning

Kernel Season's Popcorn SeasoningDirector Sydney Pollack said, "Well, I was born and raised in the Midwest, in Indiana specifically, and my childhood was full of weekend movies, you know, the Saturday and Sunday popcorn movies." I'm also from the Midwest, and maybe that's one of the reasons I love popcorn so much! I often have popcorn every day, whether it's a mid-afternoon mini bag of butter flavor or a big bag of post-dinner kettle corn. One of the best things about popcorn is that you can dress it up in so many different ways - it can be topped with a spray of buttery topping, with a sprinkling of cinnamon and Splenda, or with a even spoonful of Parmesan cheese (don't believe me, just try it).

I came across Kernel Season's Popcorn Seasoning shakers at the grocery store when they were on sale at 2 for $5.00. The idea of these seasonings is quite appealing - a handy shaker of popcorn topping in an assortment of different flavors (White Cheddar, Butter, Nacho Cheddar, Parmesan and Garlic, Ranch, Sour Cream and Onion, Salt, Caramel, Kettle Corn, Jalapeno, Cajun, Barbecue, Apple Cinnamon, and Chocolate Marshmallow). With such an assortment, it was hard to decide what to try, but I decided on Caramel.

I popped a bag of plain popcorn as soon as I got home, eager to try my new seasoning. It added a slightly sweet but not overwhelming - I liked it. The taste was a nice change of pace from butter and salt flavored popcorn. Each 1/4 tsp serving provides 5 calories from 1 gram of sugar - so depending on how much you're eating, the sugar grams can start to add up.

The ingredients are, Sugar, Brown Sugar, Natural Flavor, Caramel Color, and not more than 2% Silicon Dioxide, Tricalcium Phosphate and Soybean Oil added to prevent caking. As you can see - sugar, sugar & more sugar!

I liked this flavor to add a little something different to my popcorn every now and again - but maybe not regularly. According to the website, Kernel Season's Caramel Popcorn Seasoning might also be good for use in pancakes, fruit, ice cream and baked goods.
