Odwalla Sweet and Salty Almond Bar

Odwalla Sweet and Salty Almond BarThe bright yellow and orange wrapper of the Odwalla Sweet and Salty Almond Bar drew me in after a long night at the office. We hadn't had time to get dinner, so I had foraged in my bag for bars, and come up with this Odwalla and a tasteless ThinkThin Chunky Peanut Butter Bar.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (45 grams)

Sugars: 8 grams

The appearance of this Odwalla bar was more like a cereal bar, which was quite surprising to me since I'm used to the Odwalla bars being cookie-like. I was slightly disappointed, but bit in regardless. While the initial bite was underwhelming, the flavor grew in my mouth, and I'd say "sweet and salty almond" pretty much sums it up. Almond is a very subtle taste, so if you're looking for a burst of flavor, you won't find it here. However, the variety of crunchy textures (almonds, rice puffs, oats,
syrup) all seem to dissolve at different points in my mouth, which made it an interesting tasting experience.

Each 45 gram Odwalla Sweet and Salty Almond Bar provides 220 calories, 17% of the daily value for total fat, 5% for saturated fat, 6 grams fiber (24% of the DV), 8 grams of sugar and 6 grams of protein. There is also 10% of vitamins A and C, 20% of the DV for vitamin E and 25% of the DV for calcium and folate. Looks like whereas the Odwalla Banana Nut Bar had too much sugar, they cut down on that here (although there is still tastes plenty sweet), but now there is too much fat!

Like other Odwalla bars, the ingredients list is a bit long but contains only all natural ingredients and nothing unrecognizable. The bar is sweetened with a combination of rice syrup, cane syrup, and oat syrup - it surprises me that they put all those syrups in just for 8 grams of sugar!

Overall, I was impressed with the texture and nutrition of the bar, but would prefer something with a bit more flavor and kick to the taste, especially for $1.99. I wouldn't turn this down if offered it in the future, but there are too many really delicious bars out there for me to seek this one out to purchase.
