Enjoy Life Caramel Apple Snack Bar
Enjoy Life Foods makes products that are free of 8 of the most common food allergens. I have no food allergies or anything else causing a restriction upon my diet, however, when a sweet sample lady at the grocery store offered me two - $1.00 off coupons and a sample of Enjoy Life Soft Baked Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies, I got caught up in it all. The sample was very small and I must confess did not leave a favorable impression on me, but I decided that I would buy the regular size of another flavor to see if my opinion would be different (not to mention that I am a sucker for coupons). I picked up the Enjoy Life Soft and Chewy Caramel Apple Bars and let's just say, I was left with the same disappointed feeling.

The 110 calorie bar is extremely dense. The flavor is more apple than caramel and just about perfectly sweet. The texture is a bit crumbly and dry, while being moist at the same time - it's almost cookie like, until some "hard bits" come through and get stuck in your teeth. Not to mention, there is a slight powdery, "stereotypical health food" taste that is unavoidable. The off-putting texture outweighs the pleasant flavor in my opinion.
Each 28 gram Enjoy Life Caramel Apple Snack Bar provides 110 calories, 2.5 grams of total fat, 4% of the daily value for sodium, 2 grams of fiber (8% of the DV), 8 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein.
The first ingredient is organic brown rice syrup, followed by organic evaporated cane juice - telling since 1/3rd of the weight of this bar is sugars.
By the time I finished the box, the bars had started to grow on me. Would I buy them again? ... probably not. There are too many bars out there that have rocked my world (Clif Kid Organic Chocolate Chip Zbars and Gnu Foods Natural Flavor and Fiber Bars just to name a few). If you're on a gluten free diet, try Balance Chocolate Cashew Pure Bar; dairy free & vegan: try Weil By Nature's Path Organic Chia Razz Pure Fruit And Nut Bar; peanut free ... that's a tough one. Perhaps NuGo 10 Bars which are 100% raw bars that are vegan, gluten free, dairy free, soy free and made in a peanut free facility (but we've only reviewed the NuGo Smarte Carb Sugar Free Chocolate Black Cherry Bar which is not the peanut free version).
