Betty Lou's Peanut Butter Balls

Betty Lou's Peanut Butter BallsI must be on a peanut butter kick - I've been sampling all sorts of new spreads and cookie bars recently, on a mission to seek out the best ones. I was at the Vitamin Shoppe before going to the gym today, and I stumbled across Betty Lou's Peanut Butter Balls. What drew me to these snacks? First of all, they look fun! They look much more like candy balls than they do protein bars or other vitamin-related snacks. However, they're advertised as containing B-complex vitamins, no trans fat, no wheat, gluten, or corn, and have a full 15 grams of protein. They even contain electrolytes.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 48 grams (1 ball)
Calories: 200
Total Fat: 8 grams, 12%
Saturated Fat: 1.5 gram, 6%
Sodium: 110 mg, 3%
Carbohydrates: 7 grams
Fiber: 3 grams, 11%
Sugars: 12 grams
Protein: 15 grams

Each peanut butter ball is quite big - and watch out because each one is a 200 calorie serving! They are chewy and peanut-studded, with only the slightest hint of artificial flavor - maybe because of the huge 15 grams of protein in each ball. This is a perfect snack during a long run when you need energy. Otherwise, since it's very much like a "healthyfied" candy ball, I would not buy a case of 40 like they have on Amazon.com - who could resist eating a few throughout the day?!

Each one of Betty Lou's Peanut Butter Balls (48 grams) are made from a whey protein blend base. Each one provides 200 calories, 12% of the daily value of total fat (6% of the DV for saturated fat), 12% of the DV for fiber, 15 grams of protein, and 12 grams of sugars. There is also 20% - 25% of an array of B vitamins. The ingredients list is not lengthy and filled with unknowns. It's basically organic Agave Syrup, Organic Peanut Butter, Whey Protein Blend, Inulin (dietary fiber), Pure Vanilla Extract, Natural Flavors etc.

Thank goodness these come in individual packs! At only $1.19 per snack, this was a great pre-workout fuel, and it's something I'll be buying again soon.
