Amy's Organic Lentil Soup
Over the years, I've been gradually trying to add more organic products to my shopping cart. Amy's, with their delicious pizzas, chili, burritos, and other vegetarian options has been one of my favorite brands for a few years now. Having been in the mood for soup lately, I picked up a can of Amy's Organic Lentil Soup, something which I had yet to try.
This is a ready-to-go soup; just dump the contents into a bowl and nuke until warm. I cut through the lid with a can opener (no pop-top here), and dumped the contents into a microwave-safe bowl. The soup was a greenish-brown, with lots of visible lentils and carrots. I gave it a zap, stirred, and zapped again until piping hot.

I took a bite and was greeted by a thick, hearty broth with perfectly cooked lentils. But the flavor? Yikes ... to say that it's lacking would be nice. To say that it's nonexistent would be honest. There's carrots, potatoes, celery, and onion listed on the ingredients list, but they all have the exact taste and texture of the lentils, and are completely lost in the soup. I was sorely tempted to add salt for just a little flavor, but the fact that this isn't a low-sodium soup prevented me from reaching for the shaker.
Each can of Amy's Organic Lentil Soup (2 servings) provides 360 calories, 9 grams of total fat which includes 1 gram of saturated fat (16% and 6% of the daily value), 1180 mg sodium (50% of the DV - yikes!), 70% of the daily value for fiber, and 16 grams of protein. It's also 99% organic and 100% vegan.
Although the amount of fiber and protein is the envy of a lot of "canned soups", the lack of flavor isn't worth the $1.50 I paid for this. I'll continue to buy from Amy's, but perhaps I'll stick to my trusted standby for a while: Amy's Organic Light Sodium Low Fat Split Pea Soup

I am a huge fan of Amy's products, but just realized I have never tried her soups!
This stuff is great! Tastes very good, although it may need a dash of salt and a bit of hot pepper, just enough calories for a light lunch and nutritious and fiber-filled and all in a convenient can that you can keep in your desk drawer. This is definitely the best Amy's soup that I've tried, including the vegetable version of this and the split pea. Those were good; this is great.
