Kids OoHmega Cherry Pie Food Bar (Organic)
As a part of my recent quest to find a healthy and portable snack that would satisfy my ultra picky toddler, I tried several different bars marketed as being kid friendly. She ended up really liking the Clif Kid Organic Chocolate Chip Z Bars, but one that we tried and she swiftly rejected was the Kid's OoHmega! Food Bar in Cherry Pie flavor. I am a sucker for anything with cherries, so while Miss Finicky Britches may not have liked this bar, but I thought it was tasty, nutritious and worthy of a review.

These bars are 100% organic and unprocessed, containing only real food ingredients, including cashew butter, flax, cherries, oats and rice protein. Dates and agave nectar are used as natural sweeteners. They're a little on the small side, but only have 135 calories so I can live with that. Unlike say a Larabar, the ingredients are pretty well blended together and the only visible chunks are the dried cherries. The texture is okay, but I personally prefer a little crunch in my bars, so I think throwing in some nut pieces would be an improvement. The cashew butter and cherries really come through in the taste and you can also catch a hint of the flax.
I wouldn't say this one is as close to actual cherry pie in taste as the gold standard Cherry Pie Larabar, but it's still pretty good and definitely cherr-eee (not a word, but you get my meaning) in flavor. This is also what I like to call a good "all weather" bar. I live in South Carolina, which is hotter than H-E-double hockey sticks, for 4 four months out of the year, so bars enrobed in chocolate or containing anything with a melting point die a quick death around here.
As is indicated by the name, OoHmega! Food Bars are a good source of omega 3's, containing 1000 mg each. Each Kids OoHmega Cherry Pie Food Bar also provides 4 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber, 7 grams of toal fat (only 1.2 grams of which is saturated) and 8 grams of sugar.
They are very affordable as well. I paid $8.93 for a box of 10 at Vitacost.com. For grownups or kids, especially those who like cherries, this bar is a good, inexpensive and healthy snack that I will be purchasing again.
