Philadelphia Fat Free Cream Cheese

Philadelphia Fat Free Cream CheeseWhile browsing the grocery store aisles, I decided to buy a tub of Kraft Philadelphia Fat Free Cream Cheese to sub in for my regular cream cheese. For the number of times a day I eat this spread, I reasoned it would serve me well to substitute a lower calorie variety. After all, a 1-ounce serving of the full-fat stuff has 90 calories, 9 grams if fat, 5 grams of which is saturated, and 2 grams of protein. Not to mention that it's hard to stop at one serving!

When I got home, I eagerly spread some cream cheese on a toasted bagel and took a bite. Yuck yuck. Like so many unfortunate de-fattened products, it appears that Kraft took all of the flavor out with the fat and calories and replaced a lot of artificial ingredients. What a disappointment!

Philadelphia Fat Free Cream Cheese trumps its full fat counterpart in the nutrition category. Each 1 ounce serving provides 30 calories, no fat, 200 mg of sodium (8% of the daily value), 4 grams of protein, and 2 grams of carbohydrates, which includes 1 gram of sugars. There is also 15% of the RDA for calcium (compared with 2% in the full fat version).

In theory it all sounds great - 1/3 the calories, as well as more protein and calcium, for the same size serving. Each 8 ounce tub costs $2.99, but I will gladly take my higher calorie, flavorful cream cheese over this stuff any day, or reduce the amount of cream cheese I eat. Unless you're a fan of tasteless condiments, avoid this one.

You should try the whipped cream cheese. It has a nice texture and has less fat and calories than the regular kind. It's a nice balance between regular and fat free.

I actually like the fat free cream cheese in the tub. I've never tried the kind that comes in a box, but I've found that it tastes really good on a bagel or toast with a little bit of sugar-free jam. But then again, this is all coming from a calorie-o-phobe, so I guess my opinion isn't the most relatable. XD

Kraft FF cream cheese in the 8 oz. tub is terrible. It's gloppy, dry and tastes bad. They must have changed the recipe - never used to be like this!!!

We can all agree that FULL FAT content cheese taste better. To enjoy the lesser fat or not fat cheese we have to learn when and how to use them. I have learned that no fat cream cheese mixed with herbs or just plain garlic and lemon juice carries a bit bang for the buck and will save me a stroke later in life.
