Nile Spice Sweet Corn Chowder Low Fat Soup Cup

Nile Spice Sweet Corn ChowderLet's talk about corn chowder for a little bit. I think it's pretty delicious, but then again, I love all things corn (corn on the cob, popcorn, cornbread, etc.) If you, like me, also enjoy this soup, perhaps you share my frustration with the fact that it's often made with such a creamy base. Sure, this makes it taste good, but it also ups the calories and fat substantially. A medium-sized bowl (12 ounces) at Au Bon Pain, for example, provides 350 calories, 42% of the daily value for saturated fat and 47% of the DV for sodium.

I was intrigued by Nile Spice soup cups ever since trying the Chicken and Vegetable flavor (although I was not so happy with the 670 mg of sodium). The soup cups are all natural, so when I saw Nile Spice Sweet Corn Chowder, also for only $1.19, I had to buy it.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 pkg
Calories: 110
Total Fat: 2 grams, 3%
Saturated Fat: 1 gram, 5%
Sodium: 400 mg, 17%
Carbohydrates: 22 grams
Fiber: 3 grams, 12%
Sugars: 4 grams
Protein: 3 grams

An entire package of this soup has only 110 calories, 2 grams of fat, 17% of the daily value for sodium (much better than many other packaged soups!), 3 grams of fiber, 4 grams of sugar, and 3 grams of protein. In terms of ingredients, this stuff is pretty natural as well, with ingredients limited to dehydrated vegetables (sweet corn, potato, onion, red bell peppers), butter bowder (cream), salt, molasses, nonfat milk, spices, honey, natural flavors, and citric acid.

Making this soup couldn't be easier - you simply shake the cup, add boiling water, stir, and wait a few minutes. As for taste, I really like this chowder. It doesn't taste exactly like store-bought corn chowder (probably because the first ingredients aren't whole milk and/or half and half), and it's somewhat grainy, but it's filling and it definitely satisfies a craving.

The price can't be beat, either - at $1.19 per cup as previously mentioned.I actually really liked this soup and am pleased with the taste, nutrition facts & ingredients. It's not often that I get to say that, so you can imagine that I will definitely be buying this again.
