Maple Grove Farms of Vermont Fat Free PoppySeed Dressing

Maple Grove Farms of Vermont Fat Free Salad DressingsI have no trouble eating my veggies, but I prefer that they be cooked rather than raw. Therefore, when I prepare a raw salad, you can bet I am going to dress it up with something that will pack a flavorful punch. After having success with Maple Grove Farms of Vermont Fat Free Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing, I decided to try another variety, so I scooped up Maple Grove Farms of Vermont Fat Free PoppySeed Dressing.

The first thing that I noted was that the cider vinegar flavor is very prominent; so much so, that I had to look at the bottle to see what I was supposed to be tasting ... Poppyseed Dressing! Well, there are poppy seeds in it, so I guess the name does not lie. That being said, the lightly seasoned vinegar flavor has a slight lemon background that makes for the perfect complement to some crisp veggies. As with most fat free dressings, it possesses a gel-like consistency; but not to the point of being appalling.

A 2 Tbsp serving of Maple Grove Farms of Vermont Fat Free PoppySeed Dressing provides 40 calories, no fat, 3% of the daily value for sodium and 5 grams of sugar. Furthermore, this product is gluten free. Maybe the ingredients list would give a clue as to why this had such a strong vinergar-ish taste to it, and wouldn't you know it - the admittedly short ingredient list starts off with water, cider vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, seasoning blend, concentrated lemon juice, poppy seeds ... wait a minute ... why is this towards the end when it's in the name of the dressing?! Me thinks this should be called Vinegar and Poppyseed Dressing - or something of the sort.

This cost around $2.00 for an 8 oz bottle, and I might be tempted to buy this again if I have coupons, but it's not one of my favorite dressings.
