Betty Crocker Bac-Os Bacon Flavor Bits

Betty Crocker Bac-Os Bacon Flavor BitsI, too, was skeptical when a friend introduced me to the brightly-colored pieces of Betty Crocker Bac-Os Bacon Flavor Bits. I decided to push my skepticism aside, however, and picked up a 4.4-ounce jar for $2.09, which seemed quite reasonable. I took my jar home and tried some of these sprinkled on my salad.

These taste amazing. They're crunchy and zesty, and they really add a lot of interest to each bite of salad. The bright red color is a little zany, but that doesn't make them taste any less delicious. The nutrition, on the other hand, is not as stellar. Ingredients include Defatted Soy Flour, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Water, Salt, Sugar, Artificial and Natural Flavor, Red 40 and Other Color Added, Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt), Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (Corn, Soy, Wheat)

Each 7 gram serving of Betty Crocker Bac-Os Bacon Flavor Bits provides 30 calories, 1.5 grams of total fat, 5% of the daily value for sodium and 3 grams of protein.

I do love the taste of these fake bacon bits, and would probably continue to use them if I didn't eat pork, and if I didn't know about Oscar Mayer real Bacon Bits.

If you're not a fan of salads, try jazzing it up with some Bacon Bits, and some low fat cheese, plus some low fat dressing, and see if that doesn't change your mind. if it doesn't - eat your vegetables anyway - they're good for you.

they hydrogenated soybean oil would lower them quite a few points in my books, regardless of taste.

Great for vegetarians and terrific mixed into scrambled eggs. I've also eaten them straight out of the container. yum.
