Kellogg's FiberPlus Antioxidants Dark Chocolate Almond Bars

Kellogg's FiberPlus Antioxidants Dark Chocolate Almond BarsI could not resist the promise of both fiber and antioxidant power in the Kellogg's FiberPlus Antioxidant Bars, so I grabbed a box of the decadent sounding, Dark Chocolate Almond flavor to try. I found these for $1.88 and there was a coupon for $1.00 off 2 boxes on the back of both boxes. Nutritious and inexpensive to boot so I was certainly hoping for the best.

Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my high expectations. The bar flavor was very mild - I don't like overly sweet bars, but this was too bland even for me. You can't see whole almonds in these bars and although there are pieces scattered throughout, there doesn't seem to be enough to add to the flavor or texture. I could taste a mild dark chocolate flavor which was the only saving grace.

At least the nutrition facts are pretty good. Each 36 gram Kellogg's FiberPlus Antioxidants Dark Chocolate Almond Bars provides 120 calories from 5 grams of total fat of which 2.5 grams is saturated fat (8% and 13% of the daily value), 2% of the DV for sodium (50 mg), 2 grams of protein and 24 grams of carbohydrates which includes 9 grams of fiber (35% of the DV) and 7 grams of sugars (source).

I preferred the Dark Chocolate Almond to the Chocolate Chip, but I did not enjoy the taste of these bars as much as the Fiber One bars. I was disappointed by the lack of almonds in the almond variety - these are a far cry from the Kashi TLC Dark Mocha Almond Bar. I'm not sure if I would buy these bars again since I like a strong chocolate flavor in anything that is chocolate-flavored, and these bars didn't really do the job for me.

It's such a shame that dark chocolate makes my taste bud squeal and protest. I feel like the odd ball out. And the bars are chewy too? Darn.

I've never tried a fiber one or fiber-oneesque type of bar.
Am I strange?

i really want to like these and fiber one bars too but they just seem overly sweet to me and you are right, no real flavor pop - sigh - must one give up flavor for added fiber?! Say it aint' so!!!

These are the most amazing bars ever. They're so delicious, it seems like I'm eating candy bars. I'm on a diet and these save me from going insane! I love them, I don't know how anyone couldn't. My mom agrees too, they're simply amazing.
