Healthy Choice Philly Cheese Steak Panini
I've never eaten a Philly Cheesesteak, but from what I hear, they're pretty rich and awesome. However, I've never heard anyone call the cheesesteak healthy either, so I was intrigued to check out Healthy Choice Philly Cheesesteak Panini. I've had a few of the other Healthy Choice Paninis, like the Healthy Choice Chicken Basil Panini, with moderate satisfaction, so I was curious about how this one would turn out.
The whole grain bread is pretty reliable with a soft inside and slightly crisp outside with grill marks. The little squares of beef were supposed to simulate steak, but they lacked flavor and didn't deliver. The cheese portion of the Panini consisted of mozzarella, provolone, and a "cheese sauce," which altogether tasted okay, but wasn't really memorable. There are also diced onions and bell peppers in the mix, which were a welcome addition but not particularly noticeable tastewise.
Each Healthy Choice Philly Cheese Steak Panini provides 310 calories from 4.5 grams of fat, including 1.5 grams of saturated fat, 600 milligrams of sodium (25% DV), 24 grams of protein and 43 grams of carbohydrates, including 6 grams of dietary fiber and 4 grams of sugars. There is also 35% DV vitamin A, 25% DV calcium, and 20% DV iron.
The Healthy Choice Philly Cheese Steak Panini was edible okay, but again, nothing to write home about. Perhaps it would be more accurate to call it a "diced beef and cheese" panini since this iteration is so different from its original namesake. The high content of fiber, protein, and a variety of vitamins and minerals makes this Panini nutritionally laudable, but it's also smaller than I would have liked. For the $3.00 that I paid for it, I will probably get something else in the future.
