Friendship All Natural 1% Whipped Cottage Cheese
I've recently gotten back into cottage cheese for many reasons: the protein, the calcium, the portability, and the taste! When I came across Friendship All Natural 1% Whipped Cottage Cheese on sale for just $0.99 cents for a 16-ounce container at the grocery store, I couldn't believe it - and I couldn't resist. An added bonus was that this cottage cheese is supposed to be "spreadable" according to the label. I've heard that it can be used as a cream cheese substitute, but I was dubious. I opened the package to see how it would compare.
When I dug in, I found that the cream cheese was much drier than expected. I'm used to a creamy, somewhat more liquid-y cottage cheese, but this was definitely whipped and lighter. It could possibly double as a spread, but I'll stick to cream cheese for topping my bagels. As for the taste, this wasn't my favorite. Despite the hefty 15% of the daily value for sodium per serving, this tasted somewhat bland.
Each 1/2 cup serving provides 90 calories,1 gram of total fat which includes 0.5 grams of saturated fat (2% and 4% of the daily value), the aforementioned 360 mg of sodium (15% of the DV), 16 grams of protein and 3 grams of carbohydrates as sugar. There is also 10% of the daily recommendations for calcium. The ingredient list is wonderfully short: cultured pasteurized grade A skim milk, milk, salt, and vitamin A palmitate.
Overall, I think this is different and somewhat interesting, but not my cup of tea.

Try the low sodium friendship 1%. Still a little dry, but NOT SALTY and has a great flavor.
I wish more cc brands made low sodium kinds-- for example, I love Cabot Nonfat cc-- it has probiotics, like yogurt!-- but it is wicked salty so I don't buy it much.
I have never tried this brand but that is definitely a really good price. My favorite cottage cheese is Knudsen 2%, I've found that has just the right balance of nutrition/flavor/texture although I wish they would release a lower sodium version.
I would never call Friendship's flavor bland--I think it's even a little too salty sometimes. But the whipped texture definitely isn't my favorite. I like their small curd 1% and their digestive health versions best. Breakstone's LivActive is also good.
Friendship brand cottage cheese used to be my favourite, but trying it after not having it for quite a while, I experienced the dryness too. I prefer Hood lowfat cottage cheese, I think... though the Fiber One cottage cheese I just bought is pretty tasty too!
