Dole Strawberry Fruit 'N Juice Frozen Fruit Bars

There was a 2-day flu bug going around recently, and I was one of the (un)lucky ones who got it. I felt awful, but knew I needed to try to eat something that I could keep down. Luckily, I remembered Dole's Strawberry Fruit 'N Juice Frozen Fruit Bars, which my mom used to give me when I was a kid and got sick.

The bars are a beautiful bright red color (yay for the natural color of strawberries) and a fairly uniform shape (boo for probably more juice than fruit). Despite the uniform outer shape of the bar, there are large chunks of strawberries inside. The taste is delicious - very sweet, like pure strawberry goodness. It's not a fake strawberry taste - it really tastes like you're just biting into a frozen strawberry that's perfectly ripe and sweet.

Each 76 gram Dole Strawberry Fruit 'N Juice Frozen Fruit Bar provides 70 calories, with no fat, 15 mg sodium (1% of the daily value), 1 gram of fiber (4%), and 15 grams of sugar. However, the bar only contains 6% of your vitamin C and 2% of your calcium. Unfortunately, high fructose or not, these bars do contain corn syrup, which explains why the sweetness. The ingredients list is at least simple and natural, with no dyes or preservatives. The list reads Strawberries, Sugar, Strawberry Juice Concentrate, Corn Syrup, Natural Flavors, Stabilizer (Locust Bean And Guar Gums), Grape Skin Extract (For Color).

At $3.99/box of six, these were a little on the high side but fairly comparable to most other popsicles in my grocery (and completely comparable to other frozen fruit bars as opposed to the ones that are pure sugar water). While picking them up at the grocery store, I literally passed out in line - guess I was sicker than I thought! In retrospect, I'm still glad I got them - they're the perfect flu snack.

I haven't seen the lime ones in stores near me, but I get the coconut ones from time to time. They are pretty good, and have actual coconut flakes in them. If you like coconut you'd probably like them

Oooo. I see these all the time, but ignore them. Not anymore I won't. NOM!
