Balance Chocolate Cashew Pure Bar
The Balance Pure Bars come in enticing flavors like Cherry Pecan, Banana Cashew, and Chocolate Cashew. These bars are described as being made from "wholesome ingredients like real fruits and nuts, plus 9 grams of protein for energy." Intrigued, I decided to try the Chocolate Cashew and when I flipped over the bar to examine the ingredients, I discovered the claims were true; the ingredients were only evaporated cane juice invert syrup, cashews, soynuts, dates, cocoa (processed with alkali), soy protein isolate, peanut oil, and salt.
I picked up a bar for $1.49 and eagerly opened it. The bar looked a lot like a Larabar - thick and chewy, as well as dark and chocolatey. I took a bite, savoring the chocolate and cashew combination. I liked the fact that there were actual cashew pieces studding the chocolate base. The texture was chewy and satisfying, and the taste was very good.
Each 45 gram Balance Chocolate Cashew Pure Bar provides 170 calories, 6 grams of total fat, 1.5 grams of which is saturated fat (9% and 8% of the daily value), 95 mg of sodium (4% of the DV), 9 grams of protein and 23 grams of carbohydrates which includes 4 grams of fiber and 16 grams of sugar. This bar is also gluten free (source).
The taste and ingredients are stellar. The nutrition facts are a little high in sugar, but otherwise pretty good. I will most definitely be buying this again; it's got a great combination of flavor and nutrition. Way to go, Balance Pure!

Only Balance Pure bars are gluten-free, not the other Balance bars. They are available in three flavors: cherry pecan, chocolate cashew, and berry chia. The website lists banana cashew, but that flavor is not in stores, not sold on the Balance website, and Whole Foods was unable to order it, despite having that flavor on their list.
