Tasty Bite Punjab Eggplant
Tasty Bite describes this as "braised eggplant cooked in a distinctively flavored sauce." That "distinctly flavored sauce" is some kind of hot pepper, because this dish was spicayyy hottt! I had to get that out of the way first, because, this was so unexpected from the description on the box. It reminded me of the first time I had Healthy Choice Sweet Asian Pot Stickers - which was also unexpectedly spicy.
And like the Healthy Choice Sweet Asian Pot Stickers, despite the spicyness, I enjoyed the Tasty Bite Punjab Eggplant - and I'm not a huge lover of spicy foods. I think though, that without the heat form this dish, there would have been no other flavor and the mushy texture would have been a turn-off for me.
This was reviewed over at HeatEatReview and there were a mixed bag of comments - some liked it, some didn't including the reviewer. I can relate to both - at first I didn't like it, but I kept eating, and then it grew on me. I had it with a small serving with Tasty Bite Tandoor Pilaf and actually went back for more.
Each package of Tasty Bite Punjab Eggplant contains 2 servings, each of which provides 140 calories, 9 grams of total fat (14% of the daily value), only 1 gram of which is saturated (5% of the DV), 21% of the DV for sodium (510 mg), 4 grams of protein and 13 grams of carbohydrates which includes 2 grams of fiber and 4 grams of sugars.
I forgot to mention that there was a layer of oil, which was rather unsightly to me. A box of 12 costs $30.82 on Amazon.com(and it's rated quite highly), or you can buy it via TastyBite.com. Whereas I thought this dish was okay, I don't think it'll be going on my grocery list, but I was inspired to try and make my own ... one day (I'm not going to pretend that I'm an adventurous cook here), after all the ingredients list in Tasty Bite Punjab Eggplant are so simple: Eggplant, Tomatoes, Onions, Sunflower Oil, Garlic, Salt, Coriander, Chilies, Ginger, Cumin, Turmeric, Cloves. On second thought, I think I might just try to add some more herbs and spices to the Tasty Bite version (which is also vegan, gluten free and Kosher), and call it my own!

I can do spicy, but if I see a layer of oil, I would be turned off too.
