Kashi Mayan Harvest Bake

Kashi Mayan Harvest BakeRecently I spotted some Kashi meals on clearance at my local Wal-mart for only $1.69 a piece. Sure enough, 6 of them went into my grocery cart - one of which was the Mayan Harvest Bake. This meal features plantains with roasted sweet potato, black beans and kale, along with a spicy ancho sauce with pumpkin seed garnish served over Kashi seven whole grain polenta - definitely not your garden variety microwaveable meal.

As reported by FitSugar and Vegalicious, this meal is in fact delicious. All the elements were perfectly cooked - no big globs of squishy and unidentifiable veggies. The plantains were WONDERFUL and really make the dish and the spicy ancho sauce is the perfect accompaniment to their sweetness. The polenta was creamy and perfectly seasoned and the pumpkin seeds added a nice crunch. There were plenty of black beans, although there could have been a few more sweet potatoes - but I'm a big sweet potato fan. I ate this for breakfast and it reminded me a lot of the sweet and savory breakfasts I enjoyed while visiting the Dominican Republic a few years back.

Each Kashi Mayan Harvest Bake meal provides 340 calories, 9 grams of fat, 1 gram of which is saturated (14% and 5% of the daily value), 16% of the DV for sodium (380 mg), 9 grams of protein and 52 grams of carbohydrates which includes 8 grams of fiber (32% of the DV) and 19 grams of sugars. The Mayan Harvest Bake is also high in vitamins, with 100% of A, 20% of C and 20% of the RDA of Iron (more details at Kashi, com).

I thoroughly enjoyed this meal, particularly since it was so cheap. Regular price would have run me about $3.75 or so, but even at that price I will be purchasing the Mayan Harvest Bake again.

Your Mayan Harvest Bake looks much better than mine did. While the pictures that go on the box constitute 1% of meals that would really come out of that box, what I got was definitely the lowest 1% aesthetically.

Regardless, it was tasty and one of the best convenience dinners I have had.

I've only heard good things about this particular variety.

was it filling? i am always reluctant to get meals that are low on protein, and have been tempted several times to get this one, but put it back each time for the low protein content.

This is the BEST frozen meal ever made!!!!! I love it! Kashi also has a pizza with plantains on it..good!

This looks DELICIOUS. If only they had them in my grocery store...

This dish has developed a cult following, and for good reason! I eat this thing and I'm a protein whore! (I throw on some chicken)

So good!

This has to be the BEST frozen meal on the market...such a unique taste! I only wish they were less expensive in my area.

yes this is definitely one of the best frozen meals around - honestly more inventive then most restaurant meals one would find

I agree this meal was quite delicious. It was pretty spicy but I'll be buying it again.
