Takaokaya Hatsuzumi Teriyaki Nori (Seasoned Sea Vegetable Strips)

Takaokaya Hatsuzumi Teriyaki Nori (Seasoned Sea Vegetable Strips)The name is a mouthful, as are many names of the treasures you can find in your local Asian grocery store. While on the prowl for shirataki noodles in a local supermarket, I ran into this lovely treat: a jar full of Teriyaki flavored Seasoned Sea Vegetable Strips. They are a form of nori, like the seaweed used for sushi, but instead they're cut into individual strips and seasoned and ready-made to enjoy as a snack in its own right. If you like the seaweed flavor, you will probably like these. It was lightly spiced, so the seaweed flavor was predominant, with a mild yet flavorful kick of teriyaki. It is enjoyable on it's own (though very dry), or it can be used as a garnish in soups, salads, or other recipes.

The package contradicts itself, saying that 10 strips is a serving, and that there are 8 servings, yet providing 30 packets of 4 strips (which would make 120 strips, or 12 servings. Either way it's not a huge difference, and one could do much worse than eating too much seaweed! 3 packets is a serving, which is 10 little fat-free calories. There's also 60 mg of sodium and 1 gram each of protein and carbohydrates (the carbohydrate being one gram of fiber). The only ingredients are sea vegetable, soy sauce, sugar, and chili pepper, so it is definitely considered all-natural and healthy.

Honestly, the only thing I could find wrong with this particular snack is that despite being such a green food, the packaging is not all that "green" in the eco-friendly sense, being that every 4 strips is in a separate wrapper, and all are bundled inside a bulky plastic container. However, this is easily fixed by simply buying the ones that are not packaged in that fashion, and does not take away at all from the overall wonder of this often overlooked superfood.

Wow, these look like a dieter's dream! Where did you happen to find these? The only store around me that may carry them would be Giant Eagle, so I'll have to scour the ethnic isle upon my next trip. Thanks for the review!
