Jenny-O Homestyle Turkey Meatballs

Meatballs are a favorite, quick convenience food that I usually keep in the freezer for busy days. But, making a huge batch, cooking, and freezing them ... it's tiring just thinking about it! And while convenient as well as making fantastic appetizers and meal starters, they can be extremely high in fat. Since Jenny-O Homestyle Turkey Meatballs boasts 45% less fat per serving than the leading meatballs, and they're pre-cooked, so I decided to test them.

While spaghetti and meatballs is what comes to mind when I say "meatball", they are many different ways to incorporate them in a meal. I thought that a mushroom sauce would be more complimentary, so I made a quick sauce, added the meatballs. I have to say, these are pretty good little suckers! They're juicy and even have that rustic texture that a pork meatball would. While I wouldn't call their flavor very potent, it's neutral enough to assimilate into most applications.

One serving of Jenny-O Homestyle Turkey Meatballs (3 ounces - about 3 meatballs) provides 180 calories from 12 grams of fat, 3.5 grams of which is saturated (both are 18% of the daily value), 25% of the DV for cholesterol (75 mg), 15% of the DV for sodium (370 mg), 2 grams of carbohydrates and 16 grams of protein.

A 24 ounce bag (about 8 servings) cost me around $3.69. The fat and saturated fat content is rather high - but consider that one serving of Home Market Foods Italian Style Angus Beef Meatballs, 1 meatball (2 ounces), provides 160 calories and 25% of the DV for saturated fat.

Hey! I didn't even know they made meatballs. 180 calories for 3? I'd eat about 7, and that's not even counting the rest of the dish. Calorie overload! Darn.
