Jennie-O Turkey Savory Seasoned Lean Turkey Burgers

Jennie O Turkey BurgersEven though I am by no means a vegetarian, I have never really liked the taste of beef. Add in the nutritional nightmare that most hamburgers are, and I am usually not the life of the cookout (plain grilled chicken gets pretty boring after awhile). Since Jennie-O ground turkey hasn't failed me in the past, I decided to try their Savory Seasoned Turkey Burgers when I came across them in the store.

The savory seasoned burgers come frozen and are seasoned with diced tomatoes, bell peppers, cheese and spices. Overall, I was pretty impressed. Each patty is equivalent in size to a normal burger although slightly thinner, and the flavor really caught my attention. Unlike most turkey burgers, these had a nice tangy flavor that stood well on it's own. Believe it or not, an accompaniment of cheese was not necessary. This was however, slightly dry in comparison to a beef patty, but a small squirt of mustard cured that right away.

Each Jennie-O Turkey Savory Seasoned Lean Turkey Burgers provides 160 calories, 19 grams of protein, and 9 grams of fat (14% of the daily value), 2.5 grams of which is saturated (12% of the DV) and 95 mg of cholesterol - 32% of the DV (more nutrition information at Jennie-O's website).

Each box contains (12) 1/4 pound burgers, and retails for $5.99-6.99 a box, which works out to about $0.50 per burger. Still, the fat content and cholesterol are a bit higher than I would like - so while this is a reasonable substitution for fattier beef burgers - veggie burgers are a better caloric value.

When I saw your review, the first thing that stood out to me was "seasoned" turkey burgers - that usually means tons of sodium. But, on checking the nutritional info at the Jennie-o site, the sodium content is pretty reasonable at under 300 mg. So I will probably give these a try.

Oh how I was I had a turkey burger right now. These sound really good.
