Buddig Deli Cuts Honey Ham

I eat at least 3 sandwiches a week. They might be grilled, cold, pressed as a panini, at work, at home, in the car ... you get the idea. I usually buy lunch meat in bulk, and Buddig has been my go-to for a little while now. With 1-pound bags, it's often the cheapest deli meat being sold in my store. The Buddig Deli Cuts line has recently been certified by the American Heart Association, and they are sporting new packaging to reflect this virtue.

I bought their baked honey ham, as I love honey ham on a grilled cheese with apricot jam and Dijon mustard. The slices are thin, round, and uniform, so they fit on your bread well. They're also stacked neatly in the package - you don't have to unfold and tear through half of them to wrestle them out like with some other brands. The flavor is as it should be - salty ham with a touch of sweet honey around the edge. It's tender and moist, and it doesn't dry out when heated. A six-slice serving is more than generous for regular sandwich bread, though you'd probably need a serving and a half for a nice rye or sourdough melt.

Each serving (6 slices) provides 80 calories, 2.5 grams of total fat, 1 gram of which is saturated, 10 grams of protein, 650 mg sodium (27% of the daily value), and 3 grams of sugar - which is expected since this is honey ham. With 10 g of protein, this could be a good snack, but once you factor in cheese and condiments, that sodium can really add up though. The ingredients are standard for deli meat, "Ham, Water, Honey. Less Than 2% Of: Sea Salt, Dextrose, Potassium Lactate, Sodium Phosphate, Carrageenan, Sodium Diacetate, Sodium Erythorbate, Sodium Nitrite."

I bought a 1 lb bag for $2.75, which is fairly cheap for deli meat these days. I'll definitely buy this again, though I'll make sure to drink plenty of water with it.
