Barilla Whole Grain Rotini

The major nutritional difference between Barilla Whole Grain Rotini and regular Barilla Rotini is 4 grams of fiber or 16% of the daily value. The regular only has 2 grams (8% of the daily value), while the whole grain has 6 grams (24% of the DV) - the calories are the same. When I spotted that on the nutrition label, I decided to give Barilla Whole Grain Rotini a try to see if the taste would be just as good.

I made up some pasta salad and all I can say is delicious. I really like the heartier flavor that the whole grains provide - they make for a nutty, satisfying pasta. Plus it held onto sauce very well - and hey, I like the fun squiggly shape of Rotini. If you need some recipe ideas, check out the Barilla website, and check out this interesting article on Perfecting the Healthy Pasta Salad on HealthyEats.com.

Each 56 gram serving of Barilla Whole Grain Rotini provides 200 calories, plus 1.5 grams of total fat, no saturated or trans fats, 7 grams of protein and 41 grams of carbohydrates which includes 6 grams of fiber as previously mentioned.

I picked up a box of 7 servings for just $1.25 on sale. What a price! I actually measured out 7 portions to gauge my serving size. I found that a 3/4 cup serving of dry pasta was equal to 1 serving - not a huge amount, but enough to be pretty satisfying. I was glad to have a sense of what one serving was like, size-wise. Overall, I'd say this is a huge score, and I'll definitely be buying it again.
