Arctic Zero Chocolate Peanut Butter
Oh my gosh ... has anyone tried Arctic Zero? I came across it randomly online, and when I saw than an entire pint of the frozen ice cream-like goodness had just 128 calories, I had to try it. Luckily for me, I'm in California right now where certain stores happen to carry this product. What is Arctic Zero, you ask? It's a "rich and creamy ice cream replacement designed for those who love dessert but avoid high calorie and high fat foods."
I picked up a pint of each Chocolate, Vanilla, and Chocolate Peanut Butter flavors for just $3.69 each (less than a pint of some premium ice creams) and set out to be amazed. I decided I was in a Peanut Butter kind of mood, so I opened that one. I dug in, and all I can say is - WOW
! Although it doesn't taste exactly like full-fat ice cream, this stuff is pretty darn good. Talk about rich and creamy, perfect for a hot summer day.
Each 1/2 cup serving of Arctic Zero Chocolate Peanut Butter (4 per container) provides 32 calories, no fat, 11 grams of carbohydrates which includes 9 grams of sugar, plus 4 grams of protein (source). The ingredients are Purified water, whey protein concentrate, whey low, dutch processed cocoa powder, xantham gum, locust bean gum, guar gum, carrageenan gum, natural peanut flavor, and salt. Not bad!
I love this stuff, and I will be buying it as much as I can in California (and perhaps ordering it on Amazon.com"> (which has free shipping) - when I get back to New York. This is perfect for folks with lactose intolerance, but trust me, everybody will enjoy this.

That sounds incredible! I'm going to go hunting for it...
can the calories possibly be right? sounds too good to be true...
most inaccurate review ever. the texture of this stuff is like phlegm. Chocolate peanut butter is tolerable, but every other flavor in this line tastes like diet chemicals. It feels like a flavor is coming, but nothing ever comes.
Ice cream is my all time passion when it comes to the dessert department. I've gotta try and locate that in Atlanta though. You say it's only in California huh?
Alison,
I too was wondering the same thing! And if you look on the nutrition label... aparently the calories are "too good to be true"...
11 grams of carbohydrates per serving already contributes 44 calories, while the 4 grams of protein adds an additional 16. Thus, a "serving" of artic zero is really 60 calories.
Still, ALOT better than regular icecreams in terms of calories!
I think I'm going to take the plunge and order some even. lol
Thanks for the review!
Caitlin - sorry you didn't like it, but we weren't the only ones that did. Nutritious Junk and Diabetes Daily also liked it.
I have tried all of the flavors. Like them all- you have to remember it can't taste like Ben and Jerrys. The chocolate are the best! I am a bit skeptical of the calories though. Why aren't they using this whey low in other foods if it's actually that low in calories? I am waiting to see if it comes out later that it's double or triple the calories! But, yes, I did try. And, if the calories are actually true, it's good for such low calories and I'll keep buying
Did some research about the sweetener Whey Low and there was an article about it in Redbook magazine a few months ago as a new upcoming sweetener that looks really good. It's an expensive sweetener though, thats probably why we haven't seen it in too many other foods. The natural healthy stuff is always expensive.
can you remember what stores they sell them at in california?
Oh my god!! 28 calories for the WHOLE thing? Man, I wish I could buy that here, unfortunately I'm in Illinois...Meanwhile I am satisfied with my Edy's Slow Churned Ice Cream.
