Gnu Orange Cranberry Bar

Gnu Orange Cranberry BarI like Gnu Foods Flavor and Fiber Bars, I really do. At least, I like the flavors I've had so far like Cinnamon Raisin and Peanut Butter, plus Chocolate Brownie and Banana Walnut are pretty good as well. That's why, when I tried the Orange Cranberry flavor, my first thought was, "Why, Gnu Foods, why?!" yuck

This flavor further reaffirmed my dislike for fruity bars, a dislike very much fueled by my trying SoyJoy Bars. Unlike the SoyJoy bars, though, this one wasn't dry and pasty. Instead, it was overpoweringly sweet and artificial (though moist and chewy). It was predominately orange-flavored, with some cranberries studded throughout. I could barely finish the bar that I bought, but since I paid $1.99 for it, I forced myself to eat it all.

The good news is if you can stomach this flavor (and I'd love to hear what you have to say about it), the nutritional bounty to be reaped is great. Each 45 gram Gnu Orange Cranberry Bar provides 130 calories, 3 grams of fat (5% of the daily value), no saturated or trans fats, 1% of the DV for sodium (35 mg), 3 grams of protein and 32 grams of carbohydrates which includes 12 grams of fiber (48% of the DV) and 11 grams of sugar. The ingredients are relatively simple: Gnu High Fiber Blendâ„¢ (whole rolled oats, organic whole wheat flour, wheat bran, organic kamut, psyllium, flax, millet), chicory root inulin, fruit juices, rice dextrins, raisins, apples, canola oil, plums, cranberries, rice, natural flavors, wheat protein isolate, and baking powder (more details at Gnufoods.com).

Despite the obvious health benefits (all that fiber), this is one flavor I WON'T be buying again. I'll stick with the other, better, flavors, thank you very much. (Photo Credit: TheChicLife who thought this bar was good).
