Edy's Fat Free No Sugar Added Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream
So fat free and sugar free cannot possibly taste good together ... it's one or the other, right? Plus if there's Chocolate and Fudge in the title - well, how could that possibly be sugar free? These were the thoughts in my head as I picked up Edy's Fat Free No Sugar Added Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream (a mouthful in and of itself). I was too intrigued to let this go by without a taste test.
I scooped the rich and thick ice cream into a crispy cone and was in a momentary chocolate utopia What?! This is delicious
. The ice cream is so thick and creamy that it melts slowly in a bowl and withstands a plethora of licks while resting in your cone. As I was munching away, contemplating how to describe the taste, only one word came to mind: fudgy. Best of all, I never experienced that repulsive artificial aftertaste, which most of the time occurs when companies utilize sugar substitutes.
Each 1/2 cup serving of Edy's Fat Free No Sugar Added Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream provides 100 calories, no fat or cholesterol, 6 grams of fiber (24% of the RDA), no sugar, 6 grams of sugar alcohols and 4 grams of protein. I won't lie; the ingredient list is long, starting with skim milk and chocolate fudge swirl containing the sugar alcohol maltitol. Check out the ingredients list at Wegmans.com it's almost funny how many times they have the warning that consuming too much sugar alcohols may have a laxative effect - in the ingredients list. This ice cream also uses sucralose (Splenda) and sorbitol as non (or low) -caloric sweeteners.
I paid $3.50 for Edy's/ Dreyers Fat Free No Sugar Added Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream, but I have purchased Dreyers selections for cheaper elsewhere. Then again, I have no problem shelling out up to $4 for this delectable treat. Next time you find yourself roaming the ice cream isle, give this a shot.
