Balance Yogurt Honey Peanut Bar
Balance Bars somehow don't have all the glam associated with Lunabars or Kashi bars for that matter, but they have quite the selection, and their bars are usually decent although not necessarily "wow." They have Balance Original, Balance Bare, Balance Pure, Balance Gold and Balance Carbwell, each of which offer different nutritional highlights. When I saw the Balance Yogurt Honey Peanut Bar (part of the Balance Original line), I thought why not?! Strangely enough, when I eat yogurt, I rarely have it with peanuts, and when I have honey, it's usually with tea. I mean, can those three ingredients even go well together?
Well, I was about to find out. I picked up the bar for $1.99 at a convenience store (pretty pricey, but I was in a hurry and the prices are no doubt jacked up compared to normal stores). Turns out the "yogurt" is just a shell of milky coating on the outside of the bar surrounding a chewy, peanut buttery inside. Yum! With the flavor of the latter two ingredients predominating, I was in peanut butter heaven eating this. In just a few bites it was gone, and I was left with only the wrapper to study. At 200 calories for the 50 gram Balance Yogurt Honey Peanut Bar, this is a decent snack (just be careful of the calories if, like me, you're tempted to have more than one at a time). There are 7 grams of fat and 3.5 grams of saturated fat - 11% and 18% of the daily value - I notice that most Balance Bars are high in saturated fat, something I'm not thrilled about. There's also 7% of the DV for sodium (170 mg), 15 grams of protein and 21 grams of carbohydrates which includes 17 grams of sugar and less than 1 gram of fiber (more details at Balance.com).
The Verdict: This is a delicious nutrition bar with high protein - a little less than Clif Builders Bars, but with much less calories too. I would buy it again to fuel my workouts and bike rides, but I wouldn't eat it every day because of the high saturated fat.
