Nutiva Organic Chocolate Hemp Shake

Nutiva Organic Hemp ShakeI have to admit, when I first saw Nutiva Organic Hemp Shake at Whole Foods, I was, shall we say, a little bit skeptical. I mean, Hemp Milk?! Well, one look at the packaging was enough to convince me that I should give this a chance. In the case of the Chocolate Shake I picked up for just 99 cents, one major standout nutrition fact was the fiber - 12 grams and 7 grams of protein from 1 shake!

With ingredients limited to organic hemp protein, superfood chocolate blend (organic Fair Trade Certified chocolate, organic ramon nuts, organic guar gum, inulin from chicory root, organic mesquite pods), organic Fair Trade Certified cane juice, and organic chocolate flavor, I wasn't expecting a pure chocolate flavor. Indeed, when I mixed my powdered shake mix with an 8-ounce glass of 8th Continent Light Soymilk, I found that the taste was good but also a bit nutty, just slightly sweet and a bit ... different. This is chocolate in name only, but it wasn't too bad.

A serving of 4 (level) tablespoons of Nutiva Organic Chocolate Hemp Shake provides 80 calories, 2 grams of fat, less than 1 gram saturated fat, 12 grams of fiber, 7 grams of protein and 7 grams of sugar.

This shake was good, and at 99 cents, the price is definitely right. The taste was a little weird at first, but I could see getting used to it. This is an easy and tasty way to get a hefty dose of dietary fiber, as well as other good-for-you nutritional benefits. If you're into the Organic thing, give this a try.

Thanks, for the review. Adding a banana and some pitted dates will make this shake taste even better. www.nutivahempshake.com will give you more info on all the hempshakes...also please try our new Hemp Protein 50% Powder

I have tried this and other flavors a few times, and perhaps it is better in soy milk, but in regular skim it is very chalky and much of the powder does not dissolve. I loved the nutritional info but couldn't bring myself to drink this regularly.

I love this stuff! I just did a review for The Daily Balance. I prefer this brand to Living Harvest for the chocolate flavor.

Not sure why you suggest mixing w/Soy isn't the point of this Hemp product to use as an alternative to Soy/Whey Proteins i.e Plant based?
