Kashi Veggie Medley Pocket Bread

Kashi Veggie Medley Pocket BreadI'm always looking for new frozen lunch options. I spotted Kashi Veggie Medley Pocket Bread in the supermarket, and since this was new to me, but looked like a healthy option, I decided to try it. My enthusiasm waned when I saw the price tag, but serendipity intervened, and I got a great coupon from my market, making it a more realistic purchase for me.

The pocket bread looks like an elongated dinner roll and was denser than I expected. After microwaving, I cut it in half so that it matched the picture on the box. The thick, soft outer covering of bread, which is made from 7 whole grains and sesame, was very satisfying. It's full to overflowing with vegetables that make up the filling, including red peppers, onions, zucchini, carrots, broccoli, and white beans. The balsamic basil sauce is fairly mild but tasty, and the entire pocket bread is vegan.

Each Kashi Veggie Medley Pocket Bread provides 280 calories, 7 grams of fat, 1 gram of which is saturated (11% and 5% of the daily value). According to the box front, there are also 400 milligrams of alpha-linolenic acid, a healthy omega-3 fatty acid. There is no cholesterol, but there are 570 milligrams of sodium (24% DV). In addition there is 10 grams of protein and 49 grams of carbohydrates, including 6 grams of dietary fiber (24% DV) and 6 grams of sugars. It also provides 20% DV of both vitamins A and C and 10% DV iron.

A box containing a 5.5 ounce pocket bread costs $3.79 at Kroger. The pocket bread is tasty and certainly interesting aesthetically with good nutrition facts, but it's a little puny. The pocket bread is high quality, but it's a bit pricey for such a simple lunch. Certainly worth trying and for some worth buying on a regular basis despite the price - after all, eating out costs so much more.

yum, yum I love these. But are they really more expensive than eating out? Target has a great deal on these from time to time...I stock up!!

I think she meant for those who DO eat out more, this is actually cheaper. :)

kaski products always good healthy products

I really like these too. I stock up when they're on sale at Giant (2 for $5, which is pretty reasonable!)
