Edy's Slow Churned Take the Cake Light Ice Cream

In 2007, Edy's (or Dreyer's, depending on geography) had an American Idol-themed contest with a selection of creative light ice cream flavors. Edy's Slow Churned Take the Cake Light Ice Cream was the winner of the contest and is now a regular flavor in the line. Since I like American Idol, creativity, and light ice cream, I had tried a number of the ice cream candidates, but this flavor really is quite appealing.
The million dollar question to me was, would this actually taste like cake ... and ice cream? Oh yes it did! It's difficult to describe the taste of the cake flavor, but think yellow cake and the bright yellow color certainly conveys that, and the light blue frosting ribbon provides additional sweetness. To top it all off, there are huge, crunchy sprinkles that are like flattened chocolate chips but have lots of color to them. This feels like such a guilty treat, so thankfully Edy's slow churned this bad boy to get rid of "1/2 the fat and 1/3 less calories in regular ice cream."
Each 1/2 cup serving of Edy's Slow Churned Take the Cake Light Ice Cream provides 120 calories from 4 grams of fat, including 2.5 grams of saturated fat (6% and 13% of the daily value), 20 milligrams of cholesterol (7% of the DV) and 45 milligrams of sodium (2% DV). There are 3 grams of protein and 18 grams of carbohydrates which includes no fiber and 14 grams of sugar. This is also gluten free & Kosher (more details on the ingredients & nutrition facts can be found at the Edy's website).
A 1.5 quart container cost $3.96 at Walmart, which is about the same as most other brands of ice cream. If you can't tell by now, I'm a big fan of this flavor ice cream. It is a challenge to stop at just 1 serving ... so I had 2 servings (1 cup) and forced myself to step away. With this ice cream, you really can have your cake and eat it too

Ya know, I saw this in the store recently, but it looked like too much fun for my bitchy mood that day. LOL. I'm better now. I'll try it when it goes on sale.
Holy cow... If this is anything like Cold Stone's Cake Batter ice cream, you have just found the supermarket icecream of Gods...
I took one spoonful of this icecream and swiftly tossed the entire gallon into the trash. This was like eating the most sugary icing one can find right out of the container. I could not even imagine stomaching a serving. Cold stone and tasti dlite's version of cake batter are worlds better. I love many of edy's other slow churned varieties, but Take the Cake falls extremely short.

This was THEE BEST ice cream I have ever tasted in my whole life. Tastes just like a real cake!! Ahhh! I reccomend buying it!
